Dr. Jennifer Mandelbaum is a dedicated public servant, social and behavioral scientist, and public health expert. First elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in a March 2024 special election, she represents Portsmouth and Newington, advocating for policies that support a healthy economy, community, and climate.
Dr. Mandelbaum brings a unique blend of experience in industry, academia, and government to her public health advocacy. In her professional career, she is the Mixed Methods Research Manager at athenahealth, where she leads research to inform healthcare policy and improve outcomes.
A passionate educator, Dr. Mandelbaum is also a part-time faculty member in Tufts University’s Department of Community Health. Her commitment to public service extends beyond the classroom and State House; she serves as a Trustee of the Portsmouth Public Library and holds leadership positions for the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM).
Dr. Mandelbaum’s career is built on her commitment to addressing critical public health issues through data-driven solutions. She specializes in chronic disease prevention and social determinants of health, with a focus on bridging the gap between research, policy, and practice. Her contributions to public health have earned her recognition including the 2022 Rising Star Award from the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors and the 2023 Early Career Award from the APHA’s Public Health Education and Health Promotion section. In 2023, she was named to Seacoast 10 to Watch and the Boston Congress of Public Health’s 40 Under 40. Most recently, Dr. Mandelbaum was included in the New Hampshire Union Leader’s 40 Under Forty Class of 2024, honoring her leadership and impact in both public health and state governance.
Dr. Mandelbaum grew up in Londonderry and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Yale University, and a PhD in Health Behavior from the University of South Carolina. Through her professional, academic, and civic work, she continues to drive meaningful change in public health, advocating for policies and practices that promote better well-being for all.
